Rohit Kumar Chillar is a professional Indian Kabaddi player who plays as a raider and defender in the Kabaddi team of Bengaluru Bulls. Rohit Kumar, lauded as one of the finest players in kabaddi, led the Bengaluru Bulls as their captain to triumph in the Pro Kabaddi League’s Season 6. His accomplishments extend to the international stage as well, having been an integral part of the Indian team at the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2017, the Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018, and the 2018 Asian Games. He also works as a member of the Indian Navy since 2009.

Rohit Kumar Chillar, also known as Akki, was born on Friday, 19 January 1990 (33 years old; as of 2023), in Nizampur village, District Panipat, Haryana. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. Rohit Kumar got himself a college degree, and he began making significant strides in kabaddi from his school days onwards. His outstanding accomplishments in the sport paved the way for him to join the Indian Navy in 2009 under the sports quota. Following this opportunity, he relocated to the naval base in Mumbai and he trained under his coach Balwan Singh.

Pro Kabaddi League

During his tenure as a navy officer, Rohit Kumar was selected to participate in the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League, and the season that followed. However, he was unfortunately unable to compete due to restrictions imposed by the Services Sports Control Board. Rohit eventually made his Pro Kabaddi League debut in the third season, playing for Patna Pirates. Out of 178 raids, he achieved 80 successful ones, amassing a total of 109 points from 12 matches. Alongside Pardeep Narwal, Rohit delivered an outstanding performance that led the team to their first-ever championship title. His remarkable contributions earned him the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the season.

Rohit Kumar was signed by Bengaluru Bulls for the 4th season of the Pro Kabaddi League. That season, he secured 75 successful raids out of 234, racking up a total of 100 points from 14 matches. However, the team did not progress to the knockout stage.

Season 5 proved to be an exceptional one for Rohit. The Bengaluru Bulls once again secured his services, this time for Rs 81 lakhs. Rohit maintained his excellent performance, achieving the remarkable feat of scoring 32 points in a single match against UP Yoddha. This record made him the first player to score 30 points in one match. He also ranked as the 2nd highest point scorer of the season, accumulating 231 points from 22 matches. He achieved 192 successful raids from 418 attempts. Despite his stellar performance, the Bengaluru Bulls narrowly missed out on the knockout stage by just 3 points.

Rohit trained under Randhir Singh at the Bengaluru Bulls. Recognizing Rohit’s leadership potential and team spirit, Randhir saw in him a future team leader. This foresight came to fruition in the 6th season of the Pro Kabaddi League, when Rohit was not only retained by the Bengaluru Bulls for Rs 89.1 lakhs but also appointed as the team’s captain.

The Bengaluru Bulls, under Rohit Kumar’s leadership, qualified for the championship match against the Gujarat Fortune Giants. Rohit’s efforts were instrumental in not just reaching the finals, but also securing the championship title. In this season, he achieved 129 successful raids out of 341 and accumulated a total of 17 points from 24 matches played.

Suicide of Kabaddi player’s wife: Rohit Kumar arrested, father surrenders

Rohit Kumar Chillar, a national-level kabaddi player, was arrested by a Delhi Police team from a naval base in Mumbai, four days following the suicide of his 27-year-old wife, Lalita Dabas, in her Nangloi, west Delhi apartment. Chillar, who joined the Navy in 2009, had asserted his innocence and willingness to assist in the police investigation through a social media video, just a day before his arrest.

Chillar and his family were implicated in a dowry death case following the discovery of a suicide note and two audio recordings from Lalita, who accused her husband and in-laws of physical abuse. According to the police, Lalita’s mobile phone contained two voice messages, one lasting two hours and the other 22 minutes, detailing the alleged “torture” she endured and the dowry demands that drove her to suicide. 1
