Deepak Niwas Hooda was born on Friday, 10 June 1994 (age 29 years; as of 2023) in the village Chamaria, district Rohtak, Haryana. His zodiac sign is Gemini. Deepak completed his schooling at TFV Global School. When Deepak was in 12th grade, he dropped out of school and worked as a part-time teacher in the same institution. He used to go to another village to practice kabaddi which helped him improve his game. Then, he pursued his graduation during which he also played All India Univerity tournament and won the gold medal.

International Career

In 2016, Deepak won a gold medal in the South Asian Games held in Guwahati the Kabaddi World Cup in 2016, and a gold medal in the Asian Kabaddi Championship in 2017.

In 2018, he won a bronze medal in the Asian Games and a gold medal in the Dubai Kabaddi Masters. Deepak became the captain of the team for the 2019 South Asian Games and led them to another gold medal victory, his second at this tournament and his first as captain.

National Career

Deepak Hooda was part of the Haryana team that won gold at the Senior National level tournament in Patna in 2014. He was a part of the Rajasthan state kabaddi team, which won a bronze medal at the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championship.

Pro Kabaddi League

Deepak was brought by Telugu Titans for Rs 12.6 lakhs making him the second-highest bid receiver of the season. In this season he secured 72 successful raids out of 148 raids and an overall 89 points in 14 matches played.  In 2016, after remaining part of the Telugu Titans for the first two seasons, Hooda joined the Puneri Paltan for the third and fourth seasons. He also captained Puneri Paltan for Season 5.

In season 6, Deepak was brought by Jaipur Pink Panthers for a sum of Rs 1.15 crore. Deepak continued to play for Jaipur Pink Panthers in season 7. He bagged 55 successful raids out of 155 raids and earned a total of 77 points from 12 matches played.

  • Deepak lost his mother when he was only 4 years old. After his mother’s demise, his father took care of him and his sisters.
  • His father also died when he was in 12th standard, he was the breadwinner of the family. Because of his financial situation, he dropped out of school and worked as a part-time teacher. In an interview, he also said that if he was not a kabaddi player, he would have been a teacher.
  • At the auction of the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League in 2014, Hooda was a recipient of the second-highest bid, having been bought for ₹12.6 lacks by the Telugu Titans. 2
  • His signature move is the Running Hand Touch. This involves lots of quick movements and surprises as he tries to extend his body to touch the defender’s hand before reaching the safe zone.
